Heartgard Plus
Heartgard Plus is indicated for use in dogs to prevent canine heartworm disease by eliminating the tissue stage of heartworm larvae for a month (30 days) after infection, and for the treatment and control of roundworms and hookworms.

How Heartgard Plus works
Heartgard Plus prevents canine heartworm disease by eliminating the tissue stage of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) for a month (30 days) after infection and for the treatment and control of ascarids (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina) and hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma braziliense).
How can you properly administer Heartgard Plus?
Heartgard Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) should be administered orally at monthly intervals at the recommended minimum dose level of 6 mcg of ivermectin per kilogram (2.72 mcg/lb) and 5 mg of pyrantel (as pamoate salt) per kg (2.27 mg/lb) of body weight. The recommended dosing schedule for the prevention of canine heartworm disease and for the treatment and control of ascarids and hookworms is as follows:

Heartgard Plus is recommended for dogs 6 weeks of age and older. For dogs over 100 lb use the appropriate combination of these chewables.
What are the precautions in using Heartgard Plus?
All dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment with Heartgard Plus which is not effective against adult D. immitis. Infected dogs must be treated to remove adult heartworms and microfilariae before initiating a program with Heartgard Plus. While some microfilariae may be killed by the ivermectin in Heartgard Plus at the recommended dose level, Heartgard Plus is not effective for microfilariae clearance. A mild hypersensitivity-type reaction, presumably due to dead or dying microfilariae and particularly involving a transient diarrhea, has been observed in clinical trials with ivermectin alone after treatment of some dogs that have circulating microfilariae.

Price and Health are EVERYTHING
I read the review about the dog whose owner couldn't get him to take the generic tablet. I have the opposite problem; my dogs will eat or swallow just about anything. We are constantly reminding them not to take anything from the ground or floor. When they are outside, their favorite are the non-poisonous wild mushrooms, dirt & all (I wish they'd at least give use time to wash them). What is important to us since we are on a limited income is the PRICE and the fact that the generic has the same ingredients, albeit in tablet form. So if price is a means of protecting your relatively undiscriminating dog, then GO FOR IT. And if you want to spend time coaxing your dog & finally winning the battle (letting you know you are a great pack leader), then GO FOR IT. If you'd rather not and have the income, then dole out the cash and make it easy on you and your dog....
A Tasty Treat!
I love heartgard and so does my pup! She thinks its a tasty treat and my daughter thinks its a treat to give it to our Willow. It was even a fun surprise for us Americans to get the Australian version. Who knew a medication that could potentially save my dog's life would be delicious, fun and educational?! Paws up to Heartgard and Pet Shed!

The Heartgard arrived in less than a week. When I found one of the girls (by the side of the road) she had heart worm and believe me, you don't want to deal with that ever. This has a perfect track record Plus, they love the taste--although they are not the pickiest eaters. Still afterwards there is a nice long lip lick.

This was the best deal on pet medications I've found. We also purchase our Frontline here. I've had no issues! Takes a little on the longer end of the shipping date window to receive it but that wasn't an issue for us. Would recommend!
Great savings!
So glad to have found PetShed. I've been purchasing Heartgard Plus and Nexgard from them, and the savings over what I'd pay at my vet's office (US) is nearly $70 for both. Very happy with the products, the service, and the prices. I've had to learn to make sure I order in plenty of time (allow 2 wks from when you place your order), but that's not the fault of the company and it's not a complaint.
