This product is not licensed for use in animals, however it is similar to several preparations which are licensed in animals. Product ContainsLevothyroxine Sodium Dosage and AdministrationThe initial recommended daily dose of the animal-licensed medications is 0.1 mg/10 lbs (4.5kg) body weight twice daily. This dose may be adjusted based on the animal’s response to the medication, as directed by your veterinarian. The usual maintenance dose is 0.1mg/10lb bodyweight once daily. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsThe effects of Levothyroxine therapy are slow to develop. Overdosage of any thyroid drug may produce the signs of thyrotoxicosis, such as excessive drinking, eating and urinating, reduced heat tolerance and hyperactivity or a change in personality. Levothyroxine should be administered with caution to animals with clinically significant heart disease, elevated blood pressure or other complications for which a sharply increased metabolic rate might prove hazardous. Levothyroxine sodium therapy is contraindicated in thyrotoxicosis, heart attack and uncorrected adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s Disease). Use in pregnant females has not been evaluated.
