It is used in pets to widen the blood vessels to decrease blood pressure, and in the treatment of heart failure. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in animals currently. Product ContainsHydralazine Dosage and AdministrationThe dose varies depending on the patient and any other medications being used to control the condition. Use only as directed by your veterinarian. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsThis drug is contra-indicated in animals with a history of allergies to it. It should not be used in animals with coronary artery disease, low blood pressure or those with recent blood loss. It should be used with caution in animals with kidney disease or a history of autoimmune diseases. A dramatic drop in blood pressure and collapse is a potential side effect of this medication. Elevated heartrate, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness and lethargy may be seen in some patients. Hydralazine may interact with other heart medications, other medications which reduce blood pressure and diuretics, so care if using these in conjunction.
