The initial signs of overdosing include GI disturbances, followed by disturbances of the heart rhythm. Digoxin is contra-indicated in some types of heart failure, and should be used with caution in lung disease and kidney disease. Collie-type breeds are most sensitive to nervous side effects of this medication This medication can interact with many other medications, such as antacids, chemotherapy agents, other heart medications, antibiotics such as erythromycin and tetracycline. Doses of this medication may require adjustment if the animal is on concurrent thyroid medication. Use in conjunction with some diuretics can increase the likelihood of digoxin toxicity.
