It is indicated in the management and treatment of acute arthritis and allergic and skin disorders. Product ContainsTriamcinolone acetonide Dosage and AdministrationInitial dose levels are normally 0.5-1.0 mg per 10 pounds of body weight daily for up to 14 days. The dose is tailored to the animal and gradually reduced, as directed by your veterinarian. Where ongoing maintenance therapy is required, dosage levels are normally in the vicinity of 0.125-0.25 mg per 10 pounds of body weight daily. In dogs, dosing in the morning may also be beneficial in minimizing side effects. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsDo not use in viral infections. Except for emergency therapy, do not use in animals with tuberculosis, chronic kidney disease, cushingoid syndrome and stomach ulcers. Avoid use in animals with congestive heart failure, diabetes and osteoporosis also. This medication may increase the insulin requirement in diabetic animals. Cushing’s syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated corticosteroid therapy in dogs. Inhibition of the body’s own steroid production following withdrawal of the drug may occur. Liver damage, weight loss, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea (occasionally bloody) and death have been reported in conjunction with this medication. Corticosteroids may induce the first stage of the birth process if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature labor, which may be associated with complications. Additionally, corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in birth defects in the young. Administration of recommended dose beyond 7 days may result in delayed wound healing. Animals treated for longer than 7 days should be monitored closely. Anaphylactoid (shock) reactions have occasionally been seen following administration. If hypersensitivity to this product occurs, discontinue treatment and contact your veterinarian. Triamcinolone may mask the signs of infection and enhance dissemination of the infecting organism, so all animals receiving triamcinolone should be watched for evidence of intercurrent infection. Should infection occur, it must be brought under control by use of appropriate antibacterial measures or administration of triamcinolone should be discontinued. StorageStore at room temperature.
