Product Uses

This product is a human medication, which is used in pets as an oral anti-diabetic agent. It lowers blood glucose levels. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in animals as at June 2006.

Dosage and Administration

The initial dose is normally in the vicinity of 2.5mg per cat twice daily with food. The dose may vary based on response to treatment.

Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Oral antidiabetic agents are contra-indicated in patients with severe burns, trauma, infection, in a diabetic coma or where surgery is required. This may not be appropriate in all cases of diabetes. Vomiting is the most common side effect seen in cats treated with this medication. This drug may interact with other medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, so caution should be used if administering these in conjunction.

Storage

Store at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C).
