It is occasionally employed by veterinarians to treat osteoarthritis in dogs and cats. This product is not licensed for use in animals. It is similar to the product Etogesic, which is licensed for use in animals. Product ContainsEtodolac Dosage and AdministrationThe dose rate for the animal registered product is 10 to 15 mg/kg body weight (4.5 to 6.8 mg/lb) administered once daily, which may be adjusted until a satisfactory clinical response is obtained, but should not exceed 15 mg/kg once daily. The daily dose level should be reduced to the minimum effective dose for long term administration. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsEtodolac may exacerbate clinical signs in dogs with pre-existing gastrointestinal, liver or cardiovascular abnormalities, blood abnormalities, or bleeding disorders, as with other NSAIDs. NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal and kidney toxicity. Those at greatest risk for kidney toxicity are those that are dehydrated, on concomitant diuretic therapy, or those with kidney, cardiovascular, and/or liver disease. Adverse reactions seen with the animal-registered product include: decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark or tarry stools, increased water consumption, increased urination, pale gums (anemia), yellowing of gums, skin or the whites of the eyes (jaundice), lethargy, incoordination, seizures, skin irritation or behavioral changes. Serious adverse reactions associated with NSAIDs can occur without warning and in rare situations, may result in death, however the vast majority of patients with drug related adverse reactions have recovered when the signs are recognized, the drug is withdrawn, and veterinary care is initiated. Since many NSAIDs possess the potential to induce gastrointestinal ulceration, concomitant use of etodolac with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as other NSAIDs and corticosteroids, should be avoided or closely monitored. The safety of the animal-registered product has not been investigated in breeding, pregnant or lactating animals or in dogs under 12 months of age. Should any signs of intolerance to etodolac occur in your pet, discontinue therapy and contact your veterinarian for advice. StorageStore at a controlled room temperature between 59-86F (15-30C).
