Product Containsfluoxetine hydrochloride Dosage and AdministrationThe recommended dose of Reconcile chewable tablets is 1-2 mg/kg (0.5-0.9 mg/lb) administered once daily, in conjunction with a behavior modification plan designed to manage the dog's anxiety. Reconcile tablets are palatable and readily consumed by most dogs when offered by hand. Alternatively, they may be administered by placing on the back of the tongue and encouraging the animal to swallow. The dog's response to therapy should be monitored. If no improvement is noted within 8 weeks, case management should be reevaluated. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsReconcile tablets are contraindicated in dogs with a known hypersensitivity to fluoxetine HCl or other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Reconcile tablets are contraindicated for use in dogs with epilepsy or a history of seizures. They should not be given in conjunction with drugs that lower the seizure threshold (e.g., phenothiazines such as acepromazine or chlorpromazine) nor with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (e.g., selegiline or amitraz), or within 14 days of discontinuing these medications. On rare occasions, seizures may occur in dogs treated with Reconcile chewable tablets, even in dogs without a history of epilepsy or seizures. Due to the long time to clear this medication from the body, do not administer any medication which may adversely interact with fluoxetine for at least a 6-week interval after cessation of dosing. The effectiveness and clinical safety of Reconcile chewable tablets for treatment periods of greater than 8 weeks has not been evaluated. Studies to determine the effects of Reconcile chewable tablets in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs and in patients less than 6 months of age have not been conducted. Reconcile tablets have not been evaluated in conjunction with drugs that affect the liver enzyme systems responsible for drug metabolism. Therefore, Reconcile should be administered with caution in association with any other medications affecting these systems (e.g. ketoconazole). Studies to assess the interaction of Reconcile with tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline and clomipramine) have not been conducted. Adverse reactions which have been seen on rare occasions in association with Reconcile use in dogs include: seizures, weight loss, lethargy, reduced appetite, vomiting, shivering, diarrhea, restlessness, vocalization, aggression, ear disease, disorientation, incoordination, constipation, salivation. Overdosing of the medication increases the likelihood of these reactions, in addition to other nervous system effects. Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach of children.
