Product Uses

This is a human medication used to treat liver and bile duct disease. It is occasionally used in animals to treat similar conditions or in cases with cholesterol-containing gallstones. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in animals currently.

Dosage and Administration

The usual dosage is between 5-15mg/kg per day, either as a single dose, or divided into two doses. Dose as directed by your veterinarian.

Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Ursodiol should not be given to rabbits as it is converted to a toxic substance in their digestive system. If the patient has shown a sensitivity to other bile acid products, this medication should be used with caution. It may also further impair bile acid metabolism in some animals with liver disease. It should be used with caution in pregnant animals as safety in such cases has not been thoroughly investigated.

Concurrent use of this medication in conjunction with aluminium-containing antacids may reduce the effectiveness of ursodiol.

Storage

Store at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C). Keep container tightly closed.
