Product ContainsCiprofloxacin Dosage and AdministrationThe usual dose in cats and dogs is in the vicinity of 5-15mg/kg twice daily. Dose as directed by your veterinarian. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsDo not use in animals with a history of allergies to this or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Ciprofloxacin, like all fluoroquinolones, should not be used in growing animals due to the risk of cartilage damage. The dosage in cats should be carefully monitored as high doses of fluoroquinolones have been associated with damage to the retina of the eye. Use with caution in animals with liver of kidney disease, as they may not be able to clear the drug from their bodies properly, which can lead to accumulation of toxic levels of the medication in the body. Animals being treated with ciprofloxacin should not be allowed to become dehydrated during therapy, as there is a risk of crystals in the urine developing where body fluid levels are not adequate. In humans, ciprofloxacin has been associated with stimulation of the nervous system, so it should be used with caution in animals with a history of seizures. Antacids dosed in conjunction with this medication may bind to it and prevent absorption into the body, as may sucralfate. If ciprofloxacin is given in conjunction with these medications, dosing should be separated by at least two hours. Ciprofloxacin may increase the blood levels of theophylline if given concurrently. Probenecid may increase the blood levels of ciprofloxacin. In both these cases, monitor for toxicity due to these elevated blood levels of medication. Adverse events infrequently seen with this medication are mainly digestive upsets: vomiting and a loss of appetite. StorageStore at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C).
