It causes opening of the airways with a minimal effect on the heart and blood vessels. Product ContainsClenbuterol HCl Dosage and AdministrationVentipulmin should be administered by mouth twice a day (b.i.d.), initially at a dose of 0.5 mL/100 lbs body weight (0.8 mcg/kg) for 3 days (6 treatments). If no improvement is noted, the dosage may be increased to 1.0 mL/100 lbs (1.6 mcg/kg) for an additional 3 days (6 treatments); if still no improvement, again increase the dosage, to 1.5 mL/100 lbs (2.4 mcg/kg) for another 3 days (6 treatments); if still no improvement, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 2.0 mL/100 lbs (3.2 mcg/kg) for a further 3 days (6 treatments). If the horse does not respond to this dosage, treatment should be discontinued and an alternative therapeutic plan devised. The recommended duration of treatment at effective dose is 30 days. At the end of this 30-day treatment period, drug should be withdrawn to determine whether there is a recurrence of clinical signs. If they return, the 30-day treatment regimen may be repeated, again using the step-wise dosage schedule if required. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsVentipulmin Syrup should not be used in pregnant mares near term as it antagonizes the effects of prostaglandin F2 alpha and oxytocin and may interfere with the birthing process. Clenbuterol may also increase the heartrate, so this medication should not be used in horses suspected of having any impairment of the heart. The effect on reproduction in breeding stallions and (non-pregnant) brood mares has not been determined. Treatment starting with dosages higher than the initial dose is not recommended. Mild sweating, muscle tremors, restlessness, redenned skin and an elevated heart rate may be observed in some horses during the first few days of treatment. On rare occasions, treated animals may become unsteady on their feet. Muscle enzyme levels may also be elevated. This product is not for human use or for use in animals intended for food. Keep out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately. Ingestion of Ventipulmin Syrup may cause undesirable reactions. Clenbuterol can cause significant cardiovascular effects in some people including an elevated pulse rate, blood pressure changes and/or ECG changes.
