Product Uses

Veta-K1 Capsules are indicated in dogs and cats to counter a lack of active clotting factors in the blood when due to ingestion of coumarin-based compounds in commercial rodenticides, or other drugs which interfere with vitamin K metabolism, e.g. salicylates.

Product Contains

phytonadione (vitamin K)

Dosage and Administration

Administer orally at the rate of 2.5-5 mg/kg body weight (1 capsule for each 22 pounds of body weight for lower dosage or 1 capsule for each 11 pounds body weight for higher dosage) daily as conditions require for up to 3 weeks. The frequency and amount of oral administration should be guided by regular determination of prothrombin time. The smallest effective dose should be sought to minimize the risk of adverse reaction.

Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Do not administer is there has been a previous allergy to any component of this medication.

It is recommended that Veta K1 oral capsules be used in follow-up therapy only after administration of phytonadione injection and hospitalization is no longer required. An immediate coagulant effect should not be expected after administration of phytonadione when administered orally. Phytonadione will not counteract the anticoagulant action of heparin. If the response to the initial dose is unsatisfactory, such as in liver disease, the condition may not be responsive to Vitamin K1 and Veta-K1 therapy should be discontinued. This medication may cause a temporary resistance to prothrombin-depressing anticoagulants.

Storage

Protect from light at all times.
