The medication forms a protective barrier over the ulcer site to prevent further damage by stomach acid. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in animals currently. Product ContainsSucralfate Dosage and AdministrationThe dose commonly used in dogs is 0.5-1g three times daily (depending on the size of the dog). In cats, 0.25-0.5g is used two to three times daily. It is recommended to give this on an empty stomach, an hour before or two hours after feeding. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsAdverse events are uncommon in association with this medication. Constipation is side effect which is seen most often. It may bind to other medications given by mouth and prevent them being absorbed into the body, so dosing of any concurrent medications should be separated from that of sucralfate by at least two hours.
