Product ContainsPhenylpropanolamine Dosage and AdministrationAdminister tablets orally with food. The total daily dosage should be 3 mg/kg per day divided in 2 or 3 equal doses. If divided in 2 doses - Administer 1.5 mg/kg Propalin twice daily. If divided in 3 doses - Administer 1.0 mg/kg Propalin three times daily. If clinical response is poor, the initial diagnosis should be reconsidered. For this drug to be effective, it must be administrated as directed. Missed doses will negate its effect. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsLethargy and inappetence have been reported in a dog following an overdose of this medication. Excessive doses may also result in anorexia, vomiting, an elevated heart rate, disorientation and enlarged pupils in the eyes. Phenylpropanolamine acts on the nervous system, so other effects related to nervous stimulation may occur, such as blood vessel constriction, which raises the blood pressure and elevates the heart rate, as well as restlessness and excitability. Phenylpropanolamine should not be given to dogs with glaucoma, an enlarged prostate gland, overactive thyroid gland, diabetes mellitus, heart disorders, kidney disease or high blood pressure. There are certain medications which should not be used in conjunction with phenylpropanolamine: ephedrine, epinephrine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors. It should be used with caution in conjunction with NSAIDs and tricyclic antidepressants as this combination may raise the animal's blood pressure. The drug should be used with caution with digoxin as phenylpropanolamine may increase the likelihood of arrythmias of the heart. Phenylpropanolamine is not recommended for use in pregnant or lactating animals. If ongoing side effects or urinary incontinence persists or increases, consult a veterinarian.
