Product Uses

Neomycin is a human antibiotic, occasionally used to treat bacterial infections, particularly those of the gut, in pets. Sometimes it is used to reduce the number of ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut of animals with liver disease, to lower to blood levels of this toxin. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in cats and dogs currently.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage and frequency of dosing depends on the condition being treated. Use as directed by your veterinarian.

Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Neomycin is contraindicated in animals with a history of allergy to this medication or other aminoglycoside antibiotics. It should not be given to patients with obstruction of the GI tract. It should be used with caution in animals with neuromuscular disorders.

Diarrhea and malabsorbtion of nutrients from the gut can also result from use of this antibiotic. This medication can be very toxic to the kidneys and the ears, causing deafness and balance problems. It should not be used in conjunction with other medications with overlapping toxicities.

Store at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C).
