Product Uses

Erythromycin ointment is a human medication used to treat eye infections caused by susceptible bacteria in dogs and cats. This product is not licensed for use in animals, however there is no equivalent drug available for use in animals currently.

Dosage and Administration

Apply to the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times a day, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

GI disturbances are the most common side effect seen. It should not be used in small mammals as it can upset the balance of their gut flora and cause a fatal bacterial overgrowth.

The effectiveness of erythromycin may be reduced when used with some other antibiotics, such as clindamycin. It may interact with other concurrent medications, such as theophylline, methylprednisolone, warfarin, cyclosporine or digoxin, so should be used with caution in conjunction with these drugs.

Storage

Store at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C). Protect from light.
