Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsAs with other corticosteroids, this product is contraindicated in animals with tuberculosis, Cushing's syndrome and stomach ulcers. Adverse events reported in dogs in association with corticosteroids (such as prednisolone) include excessive drinking and urination, vomiting and diarrhea (occasionally bloody).Cushing's syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated corticosteroid therapy in dogs. Inhibition of the body's own steroid production following withdrawal of the drug may occur. Corticosteroids may induce the first stage of the birth process if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature labor, which may be associated with complications. Additionally, corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in birth defects in the young. This product should be used with caution in animals with diabetes, osteoporosis, blood clotting problems, elevated blood pressure, heart or kidney disease. Because of the wide antibacterial effect of this antibiotic combination on intestinal flora, a change in the character of the stools may be anticipated in certain animals. If hypersensitivity to any of the components occurs, discontinue treatment and contact your veterinarian. Since the use of any broad spectrum antibiotic may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, constant observation of the animal patient is essential.
