Product UsesAnimax ointment provides antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic therapy against the organisms responsible for most superficial bacterial infections of the skin. Animax Ointment is particularly useful in the treatment of acute and chronic otitis and interdigital cysts in cats and dogs and in anal gland infections in dogs.Animax is also indicated in dermatitis, particularly when associated with bacterial or candidal infections and as an adjunct in the treatment of dermatitis due to a parasitic infestation Product ContainsNystatin - neomycin sulfate - thiostrepton - triamcinolone acetonide ointment Dosage and AdministrationApply the product as often as directed by your veterinarian. Ensure the full course of medication is completed. Wear gloves during the administration of the ointment or wash hands immediately after application. Otitis: Clean ear canal of impacted ear wax. Instill three to five drops of Animax Ointment. Preliminary use of a local anesthetic may be advisable. Infected Anal Glands, Cystic Areas, etc.: Drained glands should be filled with Animax Ointment. Other Skin Disorders: Clean affected areas, removing any encrusted discharge or exudate. Apply Animax Ointment sparingly in a thin film. The cap can be used to puncture the seal on the bottle when opening. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsAnimax Ointment is not intended for the treatment of deep abscesses, puncture wounds, serious burns or deep-seated infections. It should not be used if pus is present as the drug may allow the infection to spread. Animax should not be used in ears with ruptured ear drums to avoid the possibility of transmitting infection to the middle ear or damaging the delicate hearing and balance apparatus. If hearing loss or balance problems are noted during the course of treatment, discontinue the use of Animax Ointment and contact your veterinarian. Skin reactions are rare in association with Animax use, however sensitivity to neomycin has been recorded. If redness, irritation, or swelling of the treated area persists or increases, discontinue use of the product and contact your veterinarian. There is some evidence that corticosteroids (such as triamcinolone) can be absorbed after topical application and cause systemic effects. Cushing's syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated corticosteroid therapy in dogs. Inhibition of the body's own steroid production following withdrawal of the drug may occur. Corticosteroids may induce the first stage of the birth process if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature labor, which may be associated with complications. Additionally, corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in birth defects in the young. Do not use Animax Ointment in eyes.
