The recommended dosage of praziquantel varies according to body weight. Smaller animals require a relatively larger dosage because of their higher metabolic rate. The recommended dosage of praziquantel is not affected by the presence or absence of food in the gastrointestinal tract. It is not necessary to fast animals prior to administration of Droncit For those animals maintained on premises where reinfections are likely to occur, steps should be taken to prevent reinfection; otherwise, retreatment may be necessary. In flea tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum) infections, reinfection is almost certain to occur if fleas are not removed from the animal and its environment. In addition, in areas where Echinococcus multilocularis (a potential public health risk) is present and there is continual exposure of dogs to wild rodents, a program of regular treatment every 21 to 26 days may be indicated to prevent the shedding of infectious eggs. Treat all kennel areas with sodium hypochlorite and allow them to dry completely before reuse in addition to treating the dog.
