Product Uses
Tapazole contains the active ingredient methimazole, which inhibits the excessive production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. It has no effect on pre-existing circulating or stored thyroid hormones or supplemented thyroid hormones. This drug is used in humans to treat hyperthyroidism, and is is commonly employed by veterinarians to treat this disease in cats, however this product is not licensed for use in animals. There are no products using this ingredient which are FDA approved for use in cats currently.

Dosage and Administration
The usual dose is 5-10mg every 8-12 hours, but this may be varied by veterinarians depending on response to treatment. Blood tests are be done to check proper dosage. The drug is very bitter and is better tolerated by pets when given with food.
Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions
This type of medication is the current medical treatment of choice for treatment of feline hyperthyroidism - it will not cure the condition, so treatment with this drug is lifelong. Thyroid hormone levels in blood should be measured periodically to monitor response to therapy. Any adverse side effects due to methimazole usually occur within the first three months of therapy.

Store at a controlled room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C).
