Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Animax Ointment is not intended for the treatment of deep abscesses, puncture wounds, serious burns or deep-seated infections. It should not be used if pus is present as the drug may allow the infection to spread.

Animax should not be used in ears with ruptured ear drums to avoid the possibility of transmitting infection to the middle ear or damaging the delicate hearing and balance apparatus. If hearing loss or balance problems are noted during the course of treatment, discontinue the use of Animax Ointment and contact your veterinarian.

Skin reactions are rare in association with Animax use, however sensitivity to neomycin has been recorded. If redness, irritation, or swelling of the treated area persists or increases, discontinue use of the product and contact your veterinarian.

There is some evidence that corticosteroids (such as triamcinolone) can be absorbed after topical application and cause systemic effects. Cushing's syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated corticosteroid therapy in dogs. Inhibition of the body's own steroid production following withdrawal of the drug may occur. Corticosteroids may induce the first stage of the birth process if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature labor, which may be associated with complications. Additionally, corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in birth defects in the young.

Do not use Animax Ointment in eyes.
