Safe use of Metacam has not been established in dogs under 6 months of age, pregnant or lactating animals. As a class, NSAIDs can be associated with gastrointestinal, kidney and liver toxicity. Animals at greatest risk are those with kidney, heart or liver disease, or those which are dehydrated. The most commonly reported reactions are vomiting and diarrhea, occasionally bloody. Additional adverse reactions seen in association with Metacam use include: decreased appetite, lethargy, depression, liver or kidney damage and itching of the skin. In rare situations, death has been reported.
