Product UsesDeramaxx is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. Deramaxx may also be used for control of post-operative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery in dogs ?4lb (1.8kg). The chewable tablets are highly palatable, with a beef base and flavor. They are better absorbed when given with food, may be given without if necessary. The tablets are effective for a full 24 hours, so only need to be administered once daily. Product ContainsDeracoxib Dosage and AdministrationFor osteoarthritis treatment:dose 0.45-0.91 mg/lb (1-2mg/kg) once daily. For post-operative pain relief: dose 1.4mg-1.8mg/lb (3-4mg/kg) once daily, as needed for up to 7 days. The tablets are scored and can be easily broken in half for accurate dosing. Warnings, Side Effects and Drug InteractionsDeramaxx should not be used in dogs with a previous allergic reaction to deracoxib. The drug is related to sulphonamide antibiotics, but it has not been determined whether animals exhibiting allergies to this class of antibiotic will also demonstrate an allergy to deracoxib. As a class, NSAIDs can be associated with kidney and gastrointestinal toxicity. The most commonly reported reactions are vomiting, anorexia and diarrhea, sometimes bloody. In post approval experience, additional adverse events reported include: nausea, anemia, liver problems, seizures, lethargy, eye abnormalities and skin reactions. On rare occasions, death has been reported. Deramaxx should not be given with any drugs which could exacerbate toxicity, such as corticosteroids or other NSAIDs or any drugs known to be toxic to kidneys. The safety of Deramaxx in dogs less than 4 months of age, in pregnant or lactating animals or those used for breeding has not been established. Care should be taken if administering with other drugs which are highly protein bound or metabolized through the liver, as this may increase the availability of the drug and cause adverse effects. Deramaxx has been safely used in conjunction with other common medications, including heartworm preventatives, wormers, anesthetics, pre-anesthetic medications, and antibiotics Should any adverse effects be noted during treatment, Deramaxx should be discontinued and a veterinarian contacted for assistance. StorageDeramaxx tablets should be stored at controlled room temperature, 59-86°F(15-30°C).
