HOGWARTS, United Kingdom: Owls. Cats. Rats. For the characters in Harry Potter's universe, pets are as important and vital as a good wand or a fast broomstick.
With their own magical powers and abilities, the pets owned by wizards and witches such as Harry Potter, Hermione Grainger and Ron Weasley not only provide companionship and solace, they are devoted to their owners and look out for them wherever possible.
And while the students from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry love and care for their pets as much as they do each other, the real-life actors playing Harry, Hermione and Ron actually own their own pets and care for them as much as any wizard or muggle (non-magical person).
Harry Potter's pet is a bright, snowy owl named Hedwig. From the very beginning, Harry and Hedwig developed a great friendship, with Hedwig showing true character by being a loyal and reliable friend to Harry. During times of need, Hedwig is always be there to help his young wizard owner, whether at Hogwarts or in Harry's 'muggle' home at Number 4, Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey, England. Throughout the Harry Potter saga, Hedwig's loyalty remains unquestioned, as does Harry's love for his pet.
In real life, the actor who portrays Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, is a typical 18-year old youth who loves music and hanging out with friends. Just as Harry has Hedwig, Daniel has two Border Collies named Binka and Nugget.
Hermione Granger's pet is a ginger cat named Crookshanks. Hermione spotted Crookshanks one day a pet shop in magical Diagon Alley. She immediately felt sorry for Crookshanks because he has bow-legs and a squashed-up face. Hermione and her feline pet developed instant chemistry - he was very intelligent and, like Hermione, would constantly give Harry and Ron the "eye" whenever they cheated on their homework.

“While Emma loves fashion, dancing, music, hockey and debating, the great loves of her life are her two cats called Bubbles and Domino.”
|
Hermione is played by 17-year old Emma Watson. While Emma loves fashion, dancing, music, hockey and debating, the great loves of her life are her two cats called Bubbles and Domino. Emma is also a big animal lover, often seen visiting the animals in the movie in between takes.
Finally, Harry's wizarding pal Ron Weasley is constantly looking for his pet rat Scabbers, which is always trying to escape from him or from Crookshanks. When Scabbers turns out to be an Animagus (a wizard which can change into an animal), Ron was given a tiny, hyperactive pet owl named Pigwidgeon.
Ron's character is played by 18-year old actor Rupert Grint. While Ron had both a rat and an owl as pets, in real life Rupert owns two large Labradors, Ruby and Fudge.
Whether in reel life or in real life, pets have always been and will always be a part of our lives. It doesn't matter whether we are muggles, wizards or witches, or pet cats, dogs and other loved ones will always bring magic into our lives.
so true... pets, no matter what they are, as long as you love them, bring all kinds of magic to our lives. the harry potter saga would never be complete if there were no pets to add flavor to the stories.
its nice to know that these three up and coming your actors are also real animal lovers. it actually shows in the way they treat their pets in the movie.
i believe the proper term for a witch's pet is a 'familiar'. :)
i just hope that they all grow up still loving animals the way they do now.
hey great to know the actors are animal lovers too
i'm a harry potter addict. i've read all the books at least twice. the story of harry potter and his group of friends would never be the same without their trusted pets.
it wud have been nice if da other animals in the story wer also featured like the dragons and hippogriffs.. justa suggestion...
ok, anybody here HASN'T read book 7 yet?
i'm not a huge fan of harry potter. i did see the movies though. the last one was alright. there was this odd-looking steed, like a horse, but more -well- death-like. what did you call those things?
hey hagrid is a big animal lover too! why isn't he mentioned? he takes care of fangs, the 3-headed dog and he has a lot of other, er, "pets".
ya hagrid was the real animal lover of the bunch. he took care of those animals that most people would be scared of..
have you guys noticed how hermione's looking more and more mature and.. beautiful? wuhu!
corey: up and coming actors? daniel radcliffe, rupert grint and emma watson have pretty much established names for themselves already!
The harry potter stars are growing.. and fast! they sure won't look 17 years old when the last movie installment comes out.
that 5th movie's da worst so far twas far from the book and the plot was fast..
i really enjoy reading and watching Harry Potter on the big screen. it's interesting to see the main characters pets as well as the magical creatures that make up the whole story. it's just sad that (Character's name removed - Editor) had to die in the last book.
Aha! Spoiler alert! lol!
