Dog groomer superglues pooch's ear

All ears accounted for here....

GIG HARBOR, Washington: A dog groomer has allegedly tried to weasel her way out of a sticky situation - cutting off a dog's ear - by using a common household remedy - superglue.

According to WBSTV, when owner Anni Sherrifius took her dog Jasmine home from the groomer's she noticed some dirt on her Shih Tzu's ear. When she tried to wash it off she was shocked when the little dog's ear fell off and floated in the bathwater! The freaked-out pet owner spent several sleepless nights lamenting the loss of poor Jasmine's ear.

According to investigators, the groomer in question, J'rae's Pet Grooming, accidentally snipped off the dog's ear and tried to stick it back on with superglue. The pooch was treated for several infections caused by the incident. Now mishaps happen at work all the time - for pet groomers, dogs can sometimes get nervous and suddenly jerk, so according to website Helping Animals, accidents can happen. However when faced with a situation like this, the best thing to do is to come clean.

A teary-eyed Sherrifius said she gave the groomer a piece of her mind, and wants the fumble-fingered groomer to "never ever touch another dog again". The heartbroken owner has kept her little pet's ear in a ziplock bag.

But hold the Darwin Awards! The groomer's head might have been in the right place when they decided to glue the dog's
ear back in place. Superglue, which according to the BBC is found in 90% of American households is used for practically everything, from hiding little boo-boo's, pranks, car repairs, in construction and even in medicine.

For CSI (Crime Scene Investigations) fans, the show features episodes when the almost-magical adhesive was used to aid forensic experts in fingerprinting. There have also been reports using superglue to seal wounds after surgery.

It has also been useful to veterinarians as well. A type of superglue has been used on elephant tusks, horse hooves, and dog paws. According to the BBC, a tortoise that cracked its shell after falling from a two-storey building found superglue rather helpful in home repair. However, up until now there has be no records of using Superglue to repair a dog's ear.

The uses for superglue are, as they say, endless. Had they invented it sooner, there would probably been some hope for poor Humpty Dumpty. If duct tape is the force that holds the universe together, superglue would be the substance that seals the seams of modern society. Amazing!

As for the aforementioned 'supeglue groomer', she has not been available for any comments. According to reports, J'rae's Pet Grooming has closed shop and would not be Supergluing any other pet limbs or body parts in the forseeable future.

i know my cats love me. i was even urine marked! gross! but hey, i know it's their way of saying, "you're MY human and nobody can come near you but me."

this is so freaky funny! i can just imagine how she would have reacted when her dogs ears suddenly fell off! although seriously, the dog groomer should be reprimanded for her actions.

ok. yeah, i feel for the pet owner. if it happened to my dog, i would cut the groomer's ear off myself! call me a nasty jerk, but i can't help but laugh. PLOP! ... and the ear falls... superglue it! lol! yes, america. Superglue is the end all and be all product!

superglue a dog's ear?!?! What was that groomer thinking?? i have a poodle who gets regularly groomed. and if something like that happens to my baby... ooohhhh!!! i don't want to think about it! the name of that groomer should be plastered on all dog shops and grooming salons. even the news! you never know, maybe that person is working as a groomer is some other place!

Ian Streegan's picture

what a freakin idiot! that groomer should be banned! if the same thing happened to me, i would really lose it and give that groomer a piece of my mind!

Although i feel sorry for the dog, this article is a laugh a second. I've learned so many things while reading it. Can't wait to read more from you guys. Keep it up!

poor little dog's ear got infected...

seriously, the groomer could have just come clean. far less embarrassing than get people to find out this way.

poor doggy. now he has to live his life with one ear exposed. =( what an overly idiotic groomer! hope the stupid groomer's ear gets cut when she goes to the salon!

Tanya Saunders's picture

is this doctor for real? OMG! what was that doctor thinking? she should've just come clean and admitted her mistake. some people are just plain stupid. can't believe that things like this even happen.

I once had a puppy whose tail fell off for no reason. (I didn't attempt to superglue my puppy's tail back.) I was also really bothered by it at the time. While that incident is quite funny - a puppy's tail just falling off while walking in the yard - I also couldn't help but feel sorry for the little one. I could tell from its whimper that it was in great pain. I really feel for the shih tzu and its owner. People are supposed to take care of Creation because we're supposed to be the smarter species. So cutting off a dog's ear? That should demote that dog groomer by at least two notches!

wow that is a superstrong glue. but it is more practical to put the dog into surgery, to make it more natural. i wish the dog gud luck for its lost ear

Dog ears and superglue don't go well together. Hehe... a couple of stitches should do the trick immediately after the snipping off the ear. The poor doggie's ear could have been saved. D'ya think it could still hear on the amputated ear side? =P

OMG what was the groomer thinking???? probably had a panic attack. first thing that came to her mind was... SUPERGLUE! lol! gosh any sane person would think of surgery when a body part falls off!

hey, i'd like to see a story on the darwin awards- real funny stuff there.

what a freakin idiot! how can that groomer call himself a groomer! he should be blacklisted and never be made to practice dog grooming again!

"The freaked-out pet owner spent several sleepless nights lamenting the loss of poor Jasmine's ear." i wud have spent those days suing the groomer and making sure they didnt do any more harm..

To all of you who made comments on this article... I am pretty sure that the dogs whole ear was not cut off... it was most likely just the tip of the ear! Also, to all of you who made comments... try a little dog grooming yourself.. if you think it is easy!! I am an animal groomer and a veterinary assistant, and although I don't think that what she did was right.. (I have accidentally cut dogs and cats before)I believe in telling the truth and letting the owner know right away just in case and infection occurs.

To any of you who actually have a dog that requires an occasional haircut I urge you to try and do it yourself... see if your precious little fur ball will sit still for you! I think you will have a little compassion for the poor groomer who probably was devastated and didn't dare to tell the owner because she was afraid of what she would do to her. People can be a bit over zealous when it comes to their animals. I have seen the groom job that owners have do ne because they didn't want to spend the money to get their dog professionally groomed.

Another bit of information is that super glue is used all the time in veterinary hospitals for lots of different reasons.

thanks for sharing your side of the story.. the groomer really is at fault here but yeah a groomers job is tough.. but also you gotta understand the folks here, admitting the accident would have been easily forgivable but letting the owner discover it is really quite something else.

Corey Allen's picture

yes i agree with tony. yes we understand that accidents do happen but that groomer should have just come clean and told the pet owner about the accident. honesty is still the best policy.
