SURREY, England: Authorities are outraged after a cat narrowly escaped death when shot with a crossbow bolt - for the second time in three months.
Unlucky feline Pepsi was found by his owners with a blue crossbow bolt protruding from both sides of his chest, which punctured a lung and narrowly missed his heart.
According to politics.co.uk, it is the second time that the black-and-white Pepsi has been injured by a crossbow bolt. Three months prior he was found with a shaft embedded in his neck. The blue plastic bolts used in both attacks were identical in appearance.
Owner Darleen Matthews, Egham, Surrey in England, told website This is Hertfordshire: "Whoever did this must be sick. It's unbelievable they would do this to an animal.
"Pepsi is lucky to be alive. It has happened twice now and we are worried it will happen again. The vet said it just missed his heart and punctured his lung and caused internal bleeding," she said.
"He needed a lot of treatment and spent a week at the vet's and he still needs to be taken in for check-ups."
Ms Matthews said Pepsi's condition was improving and she was hopeful he would make a complete recovery.
"We don't know what happened to him. Maybe he went into someone's garden and they shot him. Whoever did this must be sick - it's unbelievable they would do this to an animal," she told the website.

Pepsi's owner said the first time he was shot he returned home with a crossbow bolt embedded in his neck.
Local RSPCA inspector David Johnson said he thought the latest attack was disgusting and said he is determined to track down the culprit.
"This cat has been hit twice now in similar circumstances - that can't be an accident," Inspector Johnson told politics.co.uk.
"It's completely unacceptable. I will do everything I can to try to find whoever is responsible."
TWICE? man, someone has to pay. that poor defenceless kitty does not deserve to be treated like that - what sort of monster would consider this appropriate behavior?
I have to admit I've felt like doing something similar every time my neighbours cats come into my yard and cause a racket and kill birds. If you have a pet you should keep it under control.
Oh my God! How could someone be so cruel! If an uninvited critter does come in my garden, the water hose or loud banging will scare them off! No need to hurt them. Cat or dog - that is someone's loved one and family member. I would not want my 2 cats subjected to that kind of cruelty. Good luck on tracking the perpetrator down!
Poor Cat, its not his fault, its the owners fault for letting him back outside after the first incident....he should have been kept INDOORS to prevent it from happening a second time!
The owners of pets, who allow their animals to roam at will, are at best, taking a huge risk for the safety of that pet. Serious injury for outside pets is common place. When the injuries are inflicted on an animal with malice and/or the intention to kill, it is the animal who is the victim.
If a pet owner truly is concerned for the well being of their pet(s) then the pet should NOT be allowed to roam at will. Cats are natural predators, but that does not have to be the case. Young kittens can adapt to being "house pets" and be very content by doing so.
To the "perpetator", I say you are a poor example of a human being. To the owners of the cat"pepsi",there should never have been a second near fatal injury. "TAKE RESPONSIBILITY to protect your pet or find someone willing to do it for you, not for YOUR SAKE, but for the sake of PEPSI!
no, that wasn't a case of simple annoyance. whoever did this to the poor kitty is just a disturbed sick little individual
i remember some kids from the old neighborhood who somehow got their kicks shooting bb guns first at squirrels, then later other peoples' dogs and cats.
i guess it just goes to show that there really ARE people like that in the world. and that it is just our responsibility to keep our pets safe from these miscreants as much as it is to keep them from doing cruel things to animals everywhere.
oh this just makes my hear melt with pity. and it makes me mad that they could do that! poor little kitty. i can't believe that some people get a sick satisfaction from hurting poor innocent cats! hope they can track down those darn culprits and let them suffer the same fate the poor pepsi had.
Indeed, there ARE people around the world who find it actually fun to hurt animals roaming in the streets. They see it as a game - who can hit the moving target. SICK people! While we can't fight these people, we CAN prevent our own animals from being a target. Be responsible! Keep an eye on your pets. This is a sad story, but i can't help but point a finger on Pepsi's owners. It could have been prevented.
these people really tick me off! how can they even think of hurting animals especially a cat! i really hope they get caught and will also be crossbowed themselves so they would know how painful it is.
seriously?! who shoots a cat with a crossbow?!
look, it already happened twice. Twice! i'll put the blame this time on the owners for letting it happen again!
You can't blame a cat for wanting to roam around. the finger should be pointed to pepsi's owners. they are the ones responsible for their cat. and this happened twice! seems like the owners never learned their lesson of watching over their pet.
i believe in karma. whatever bad thing you do whether to another person or an animal, it comes back to you 10 fold so whoever did this, just you wait!
it really ticks me off when i read stories like this. whoever did this to that poor cat should be "crossbowed" himself! i really hope they catch the perp who did this.
the first time it happened, fine. it could be forgivable. But the second time? Oh, the owners are to blame! they should have taken extra care on where their cat goes! and for the sick people who find enjoyment in shooting crossbows at cats just minding their own business, i pray that they get a dose of their own medicine.
