NEW YORK, New York: Are cats a mystery to you? Do you want to know what makes them tick (and scratch)? Well, now you may finally be able to.
You can start walking the walk and talking the talk - feline style - at the Acatemy. The Acatemy is a school where cat lovers and owners can study and take classes to better understand their cats - by behaving exactly like their pets. The idea is that if people think more like their kitties, then they can better understand them.
The Acatemy school offers classes in cat-isthenics, cat-nappin and much more. According to Reuters, owners undertaking Cat-isthenics will emulate the activities of their feline furballs, such as climbing on oversized scratchers or battling with an oversized ball of yarn. Cat-nappin is just simply curling up for a snooze anywhere and anytime the urge takes you.
The faculty of this first-of-its-kind cat school boasts some of the biggest names in the pet industry, including pet psychic Emerald DuCoeur; cat therapist, Carole Wilbourn; pet psychologist Warren Eckstein; and Dr. Alison Abramson VMD, associate veterinarian at Park East Animal Hospital in New York City.
Cats can do some pretty crazy things. Can you come up with explanations for any of the following feline behavour?
- Cats chasing after their tails as if their tail is chasing them back. When they finally catch their tail they let it go and start running after them again.
- Cats always managing to stand in front of your computer screen when you are right in front of it. Is it just attention-seeking or is it something else?
- Most cat owner will tell you that the first thing they see when they wake up in the morning is their cat's butt smack bang in their faces. What a great way to start the day!
- Being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They always manage to sneak into shopping bags, boxes and even luggage. Cats have even been trapped inside boxes and surviving for weeks without water and food.
I'd love to learn more about my cat. In fact I'd like to live like a cat... bowls of milk, plenty of pats, sleep whenever I want - where do I sign up :)
You don't need to go to school to learn about your cat - just spend time with your cat, ad she will teach you everything you ever need to know
hey gina, education is never wasted, I've been around cats all my life and I still find felines a mystery. i have to say, cats standing on the keyboard when you want type is very annoying
i think the time you'd spend at this cat college woudl be better spent with your actual pet. i never seem to have enough time for my guys in the first place
i don't understand the problem - why not take your cat to class with you? then when you make mistakes your cat can correct you and show how it's really done!
I wonder of there is such a thing as an actual school for cats to train their brains and teach them to be more intelligent?
gawd, i don't think cats need any help to be any smarter... sometimes they give me the creeps when they stare straight at me - I can tell their little brains are spinning away, plotting how to get that next saucer of milk... they last thing I need is to be outsmarted by a feline
i think it's the funniest thing to watch cats chase their tails
if cats are taught to read and hav to learn the ABCs...i'm curious how they wud react to the letter D..at least letters A to C are not going to be a problem, but letter D. yup, D as in DOG!!!
if you need to understand your cat, the Little Prince says 'it's the time you spend with someone'... or something to that effect. You know, the book?
i don't think cats need to learn about cat-napping. they are fond of it, therefore, they don't need to be trianed for that activity.
I agree with Gina. You just need to spend more time with your cat. I have cats and I'm confident enough to say I know them well enough.
