Denver: Best in Pet Health


A study by the Purina Pet Institute ranked Denver, Colorado as No.1 when it comes to pet health. The study ranked the city based on such parameters as veterinarian-to-pet ratio, access to preventive care, pet obesity figures and potential exposure to harm – everything that affects a pet's health and their quality of life. Oakland, Portland, Anaheim,and San Francisco, ranked second, third, fourth and fifth respectively in the Purina pet health study. In some of the parameters of the study, New York City topped the list in the percentage of neutered dogs at 83% while New Orleans scored big on the percentage of dogs at ideal body weight with 50% of the dogs tested at their optimum body weight. Columbus, Ohio topped the list of vet-to-dogs ratio withof one veterinarian for every 745 pets. Other parameters include availability of qualified care, licensing qualifications and presence of disease vectors. The study was conducted to highlight the factors that contribute to the pets' healthy years.
