NexGard

NexGard (afoxolaner) is FDA-approved for veterinarian use and demonstrated 100% effectiveness against adult fleas 24 hours post-infestation for 35 days. NexGard rapidly kills adult fleas and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides spp.) infestations, for the control of newly acquired adult fleas, and for the control of Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD). Following administration, fleas are killed within 6-8 hours. Rapid onset of action kills newly acquired fleas before they can lay eggs.

How NexGard works

Effective flea control with NexGard prevents flea tapeworm infestation in dogs. Nexgard treats and controls Paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus), Brown Dog ticks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus), American Dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis), and Bush ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis) for one month. NexGard provides effective control of pre-existing Paralysis tick infestations within 24 hours. Ixodes holocyclus ticks do not occur in Western Australia.

NexGard treats and controls demodectic mange caused by Demodex spp., sarcoptic mange caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, and ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations.

How can NexGard be administered to dogs?

NexGard is a soft, highly palatable chewable and is readily consumed by dogs when offered as a treat. Alternatively, NexGard may be added intact to a small amount of dog food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated dogs should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, treat again with another full dose.

The recommended dosage is 2.5 mg per kg bodyweight:

Dog Weight (kg)    Chewable size (g)    Afoxolaner (mg/chew)

2-4                                      0.5                                 11.3

4.1-10                                 1.25                               28.3

10.1-25                               3                                    68.0

25.1-50                               6                                   136.0

For dogs over 50 kg, administer the appropriate combination of chewables. To have optimal performance, treat your dog on or about the same day each month.

Is NexGard safe for dogs?

NexGard was shown to be safe in various breeds of dogs and in puppies 8 weeks and older. NexGard may be administered in conjunction with gastrointestinal worm or heartworm treatments administered according to label directions. Afoxolaner is part of the isoxazoline family of chemicals. Adverse reactions to this family of chemicals are rarely observed but may include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, inappetance, itching, and very rarely, seizures. Most adverse reactions are self-limiting and of short duration. If you have any concerns, please speak to your veterinarian.

Nexgard is Great!

Nexgard is great for preventing fleas and ticks. It's better than every topical I tried. It's very easy to administer as it's a chewable tablet. I have 4 standard poodles that play around in a 2 acre wooded area. Before using Nexgard the groomer removed about 20 ticks. After using Nexgard my dogs had absolutely no ticks. Two years ago I used topicals for fleas and had to constantly flea bomb and give flea baths. Last summer I used Nexgard and had absolutely no flea problem.

No greasy coat since this is chewable. My dog experienced no side effects from this medication and it was effective right away. Many flea meds are no longer effective since we've been using them for so long. Pet Shed is a great resource since their prices for NexGard are 50% less than our vet. Thanks!

I have 3 little dogs and giving them a "treat" is much easier and better than putting chemicals on them each month to protect my babies from those nasty flees and ticks! It is so easy and they LOVE IT!

We were battling fleas on my dog for almost two years. Nothing seemed to work. We tried different medications and many made my dog sick. Since using this product my dog has not had any fleas and he has no side effects. I highly recommend this product.

After trying to treat my dog's flea problem with a variety of other products and watching her lose more and more of her fur and itch incessantly, the vet recommended Nexgard as a means of eliminating flea allergy as a contributor to her distress. Nexgard seems to be taking care of the fleas and my dog is responding well. She enjoys the tablets and chews them up easily. I am adding my other dog to this product as well.

I have three dogs that vary in weight (7lbs, 17lbs, and 53lbs). I have two that are real picky eaters and they all eat this pill without any hesitation. They always want more. I have tried various products for ticks and fleas. This one does not make my dogs sick and much easier to give orally than applying their dose on the back of the neck. This product is the best one that I have found to treat ticks and fleas. Ticks die quickly and this is important since they can carry diseases and I live in a wooded area. I have been using this product for over a year and will continue using it.

Excellent way to give flea meds to your dog! My boy loves to eat these! It's a tasty treat once a month, works really well, and much easier to administer than the liquid tubes!

NexGard absolutely works! We have been using it for a year and our dog has never gotten a tick or flea. The ticks sometimes get on him but crawl around and never embed themselves. It is such an easy, carefree solution to a problem - especially for us because we live in the country and definitely in Tick country!

My Golden Retriever is 16 this year but still manages to roll in the dirt and get into the dam. I've tried neck doses, flea baths but nothing has seemed to keep them off her. NexGuard is expensive but really worth it because she hasn't had a single flea since. I'm eager to see it through the 6 month mark.

Flea Free !!!!!

I had purchased Nex Gard from you previously and it was the "cure" for my Chessie's skin problems. My daughter moved from New Hampshire to Virginia and being that it is so cold in New Hampshire she never had a flea issue. Shortly after moving to the milder climate of Virgina, she had an issue of fleas with her 3 dogs, Corgi, Jack Russel, and Black Lab: flea infestaion! She tried various remedies to no avail. I had some Nex Gard for her to try and it worked wonders! She is happy, her dogs are HAPPY and life is good. Thanks again, Pet Seds, for making a dogs life better and "saving the Day!!"
