How often should you give your dog a bath?

I was told that you should only give your dog a bath once every 2-3 weeks.

what do you think?

that's true hector. i give my jorja a bath once a month because i've read that frequent use of shampoos and soaps can dry up a dog's skin and coat. once a month is enough.

i don't know. i guess it depends on whether or not your dog always stays outdoors.

my husky is the outdoorsy type so i give her a bath every weekend. i don't want those fleas on her. i use only a mild shampoo so i'm not worried about drying her skin.

I don't see anything wrong with bathing your dog more times than what you suggested, hector -- unless it's cold or your dog is sick. Me, I give my dog a bath every weekend. I guess it depends on your pet's lifestyle (and therefore on your own, too Wink

).

i agree with douglas. it depends on your dog's lifestyle. and i also agree with pauline.. if your dog spends most of the days outdoors, you might want to bathe it more often, unless you want fleas and ticks to infest your pet.

i bathe my dachshund at least once a week. yuki doesn't need a lot of bath because she just spends most of the time indoors. Wink

I agree. I don't think it's bad for dogs to take a bath more often, maybe even everyday is good.

If your dog stays mostly indoors, you can bathe him only once a month. But if he's always outside getting himself dirty, a wash every other day would be good.

During the day my lab is inside but that is only because I am work. When I'm home it's a totally different story... we like being out side and he likes getting dirty. I don't know if i can handle once a month. I was also told that I can just wash him off with water that and should be good enough....

Just give him a bath when you think he gets really dirty. Using plain water is fine but you should use a dog shampoo once in a while. It can help him smell fresh longer.

i agree with what most of you guys have said but let me just add that it could also depend on the needs of your dog. i have a maltese and this breed needs regular grooming.

if you can bathe your dogs more than once a month that will be better because dogs will benefit more if you keep them clean.

i forgot to add that for your dog, choose a good shampoo and conditioner. these products really are a great help to keep you pet groomed and free from parasites like ticks and fleas.

I've tried it on Sky! The Epi-Soothe Oatmeal Cream Rinse and Conditioner is good too, together with the shampoo. Smile
