| Hello, I'm new to this site. I found 2 "Lonestar" ticks on my little 25 pound best friend today. I removed both of them very carefully with a set of sterilized tweasers. Then rubbed rubbing alcohol on the bite sites. I searched the web and found that this type of tick is a possible carrier of lyme disease. What should I do??? I'm so nervous that she could have possiby caught something from the dirty little ticks. We live in Florida and this is the first time in her 4 years that she had ticks on her. I did save the ticks in a plastic container just in case the vet could test for diseases? Should I run to the vet first thing in the morning or is that overboard? Cash is tight these days but of course I will do anything in the world to keep my little Jack Russell mix healthy. Please give me your opinion if you have ever had your dog bit by "lonestar" ticks. Also, she is on Revolution so I'm a little dissapointed that we have this problem in the first place. Thank you, concerned in Florida, BBright |

i don't think that would be going overboard bbright. go ahead, have your pet tested for lyme disease. |

| Great thinking you saved that tick in a jar. I think it would be best if you take that tick and your dog to the vet. |

the deer tick, which is believed to be the carrier of Lyme disease, is not prevalent in Florida. however, other species of ticks that can be found in the state are also capable of transmitting Lyme disease. |
