Unlike humans who yawn when they are bored or sleepy, dogs yawn when they are contented. So when a dog yawns while you are carrying him/her, it means that he/she is contented in your arms. Cute, huh? |

Did you know that a cat has a higher chance of having less injuries if they fall from a higher place than a lower one?
There are cats that had fallen from as high as a building's rooftop and walked away with only a few bruises. |

this is not exactly a trivia about our pets but rather, a trivia about a menace to them.
"fleas are attracted to animals by body heat, movement, and the carbon dioxide they exhale." |

Hi guys! Here's one:
Did you know that dogs can smile? According to research by behavioral scientists, yes they do! but they don't smile the same way as humans. They actually grin rather than smile! Ironically, they do this only towards humans but never towards other animals. When a dog smiles at you, it means the dog loves and adores you! |

very cool indeed. i love beatles! it's an ingenious move. i also read a recent news story on songs for dogs, here's an excerpt:
"WELLINGTON - It's a doggone chartbuster - a song audible only to dogs has topped New Zealand record charts, and is looking to go global."

hi all! here's another trivia for my most favorite among all my favorite pets!!!
Horses spend more energy lying down!!!
Could you believe that? How about humans? I don't think so. Most of us could have loved lying down and doing nothing if only we're not supposed to have a job!
If this is true, then I salute those equines more! One reason I love them most is because they are always on the go! |

beat this!
have you ever wondered if dogs can understand our language?
i learned from a vet book that "dogs may not actually understand the meaning of human words but they do understand the meaning of the sound and tone of voice, and how loudly or softly the words are spoken."
they learn by experience our language through the sound of certain words.
amazing, huh? |

The smallest recognized breed is the Chihuahua.
And that it was named after the town in Mexico where it originated. |

| Take dog's pulse on the large artery running down the inside of the hind leg. place two fingers just below the point where the leg joins the body. A normal dog's pulse is between 80-140 a minute. warning: a weak or almost non-existent pulse needs immediate veterinary attention; while, a faster than normal pulse indicates fever or shock.. |

hey, that's great Kenny. thanks!
Here's my trivia:
The easiest way to tell if an animal is a carnivore or a vegetarian is by looking at the EYES! Hunting animals have eyes located in the front of their heads, (dogs, tigers, owls) so they can focus in on the prey that they are stalking. Vegetarian animals have eyes on the side of their heads (rabbits, deer, canary) so they can see hunters coming at them from all directions. |

hmm. this got me thinking.. does this mean that humans are meant to be carnivores? we have our eyes out front, right? |

| Fish do not have eyelids and therefore cannot blink. This is because the purpose of blinking is to hydrate the eyes; tear ducts produce moisture, and blinking spreads that moisture over the surface of the eye. Since fish live in water they have no need for this. |

What if I want to only eat vegetables but for some reason I can't? Am I a vegetarian or not? Is choice really the determining factor? What if I'm forced to eat vegetables only? Can I still be called a vegatarian? |

On a positive note, did you know that newborn pups are like human babies after birth?
They are completely helpless and are totally dependent on their parents until the third week of life, during which time their eyes and ears open and their teeth also start breaking through stuff.
Immediately after birth, like the instinct of a human baby, the puppy finds his mother's teat, and begins suckling to drink milk and to seek the mother's warmth.

Interesting thread.
Here's a cat trivia i read from another website:
"The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique,
just like the fingerprint of a human."
I'm not sure if this true though, is it? |
