I propose a pet marriage!
What's your take on this by the way? I saw this being discussed somewhere else here. I think it would be great. Everyone here should be invited (or at least sent a very cute invitation)! |

Everybody's saying the obvious answer: when your cat's in heat, find a male cat.
Can I have a kitty? |

| Hate to be the downer here BUT....why is your cat in heat to begin with? Unless you are a reputable breeder, your cat should be neutered or spayed ASAP. Cats do not need to have kittens as some believe. And even if you do have homes waiting for the kittens, those homes should be going to cats already waiting in animal shelters. |

bluesky raised some good points here that will be good to keep in mind.
on the other hand, maybe some owners haven't had their cats spayed or neutered yet cause they want to have kittens that came from their pets. |

More than three million cats and dogs are euthanized every year at shelters. These aren't always "homeless" cats and dogs, either. It can be your own cat's sons and daughters.
If two un-fixed cats meet, they can produce tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of offspring every year.
This is a serious public health issue. Enough that I have taken to capturing strays and having them fixed when I can afford it.
Here are some corrected myths about spaying and neutering:
http://www.snapus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Myths
On that page, you can also view what kind of health and behavioral benefits there are to spaying and neutering.
When we take these animals in, out of their natural environment, we are agreeing to take care of them to the best of our ability, and to give them every advantage we can. To that end, we should all agree not to declaw the animals, to spay or neuter them, and to try to keep them from going outside, where they run the risk of being infected with diseases, running into other animals which may kill them, or being run over by automobiles.
Maybe it's just me, but I take the responsibility of having a pet very seriously, and I'll be neutering my cat as soon as he's old enough. |

melrose isn't even sure if her cat is really in heat. she's just assuming because her kitty makes the sound of cats who are in heat.
but i agree with you darthkelly.. we should all take our being caretakers of pets very seriously. |
