Uhmmm... i never encountered that problem. first of all, i don't have stairs in my apartment! well, maybe you just have to guide your dog little by little in going up. make him see that it's not such a scary thing to do. and praise him coz praises go a looong way in dogs. |

Maybe you have to teach your dog how to go up the stairs. Of course, it requires patience, but I know your dog will get over his fear of stairs if he is guided accordingly. |

hi! am more of a cat person but i would just like to share that pets really do have weird behaviors that baffle us but its prolly just a quirk that needs getting used to.. like a phobia or something.. just a thought.. _________________

| My buddy has the opposite problem. Labradors tend to just act without thinkin'. he don't have no fear of anything! He would just jump and try it! Scares the hell outta me when he jumps from a high place but i guess he knows his own leg strength of sumthin'. So far, nothing bad has ever happened to him. |

Yes, i think that the best way to overcome the fear of going up in stairs is to teach the dog how to do it and let him see and feel for himself that it's nothing to be afraid of. Perhaps a treat or two after each session might do the trick. goodluck! |

That ain't so weird. Lot of dogs are afraid of heights, whether lookin down or lookin up. Yeah. treats and a whole lotta praises. It's like training a dog how to do tricks. Goodluck! |

I agree with Terrence. I think you should use doggie treats to lure or entice her to go up the stairs.
I suggest you put a dog biscuit on each step. Your dog will eat her way to the top!

good luck!

isn't it obvious why your dachshund won't go up the stairs? with its really long body it would be a real chore for her, honey. |

try giving her some treats or toys - these might entice her to go where you want her to go. |

Is it your dog's first time to climb a staircase? Maybe it just needs a few pointers. |

Yeah, maybe it just needs some pointers and some encouraging. You know how loyal dogs are to its master; if you give it some assurance, I'm sure it will learn in no time. |

| Climbing staircases does not come natural for a canine. I agree with most of the posters here -- teach your dog to climb the stairs if you deem it necessary. Dogs are very smart creatures and, ergo, are very trainable. |

| the dog may have developed fear of stairs and heights resulting from an accident it had in the past. you might need the asistance of animal behaviorists in that case.. |
