Wow! This is a great tip. I just have to give my doggie a bath after doing it, though. Have you tried this, Petmeister?

Yeah, this is great, Petmeister. A flea-killer right in our own home. Has anyone here tried it?

Using apple cider vinegar is a safe and effective method of keeping fleas off your dog. Fleas, ticks, and other external parasites will not inhabit a dog with an acidic system. For best results, give your dog its normal bath, rinse thoroughly, and sponge on apple cider vinegar diluted with equal amounts of warm water. Fleas come off with soapy water and the application of apple cider vinegar afterwards will prevent reinfestation. If your dog is suffering a major infestation, consult your vet immediately.

That's great, Carlito! Thanks a lot for the info! What's the difference between using plain vinegar and apple cider vinegar? Is the former harmful to the dog? Question Thanks again!

Don't mention it, Doug. To answer your question, the main difference between apple cider vinegar and plain vinegar is its chemical content. White vinegar does not contain the enzymes and other living organisms in which cider vinegar is rich; the only content they have in common is acid. If distilled though, cider vinegar becomes plain vinegar.

Plain vinegar will not harm a dog but it is more beneficial to use cider vinegar since it has all the benefits of apples and an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Wink

Apples? That got me curious. Apples are nutritious and if they can produce cider vinegar that can help dogs then that's good news!

The smell of apple cider vinegar is similar to that of plain vinegar, though not as strong; this is why you need to dilute it with equal parts of warm water. On a furry animal, the smell is almost unnoticeable and will be completely gone after a day.

And yes, ACV can also be used on cats.

you're funny Pauline. i know what you mean. i don't want to douse my dog in vinegar either. my jack russell sleeps with me sometimes, so i would really hate it if he smells stinky! Laughing

You only need to apply a little, just a little of vinegar on your dog. That amount shouldn't bother us people, but it's completely a different matter to fleas.
