I'm a guy. I sometimes...okay, I often forget to keep the toilet bowl cover down. And when I do, my cats would drink from it. It grosses out my girlfriend and scolds me for leaving the lid up.

My question is, do you think toilet water is safe for cats? They've been drinking from it since ages and so far, they're in good health.

If you really think toilet water is safe, why not try drinking from it yourself? Rolling Eyes

My gosh! Keep that lid down. Don't let your cats drink from there. It's not hygienic.

Keep that lid down. Sanitary or not, would you drink from the toilet? do you even know what's in that water?

My thoughts exactly, Doug. I mean, just because you don't see any immediate effect on your pet doesn't mean it's ok to let it drink from the toilet. It may be harmful in the long run, you know? And I'm sorry if my previous post sounded a little sarcastic. It's just that even the thought of letting my pet drink from the toilet freaks me out! Shocked

and besides, you put all sorts of chemicals in your toilet bowl when you clean it, right? so, no, i don't think it's safe for your kitty to drink from the toilet bowl. for pete's sake, it's where your body waste goes!

no, toilet water isn't safe for cats. the toilet bowl is practically a petri dish! you should train your kitty not to drink from it. if you can't, at least remember to keep the lid down every after use.
