Okay, this is worrying my family to death. Our 5 year old Chihuahua ,"Oliver", is walking around with a stiff neck and stops to yelp loudly every few minutes. Only last month he would dance in circles and do the dancing prayer thing for treats and hugs. Now he suddenly yelps in pain even when he is standing alone. Lately he is holding one front paw up. We would check him but are afraid to hurt him. Also he doesn't seem comfortable and paces as if looking for a comfortable place to rest.
He is on regular revolution, just started "Purina One" from "IAMS Mini chunks. What is wrong? Oh we just started him on Glucosi Joint-ese chews on 7-3-08 Sad . We are desparate.

Oh another thing. The pain , if we do try to touch him seems greater near hind quarters.

Oh my Sandra, what happened to your Oliver? Shocked Sad I myself never experienced that sort of thing (the stiff neck and yelping) with my puggle.

I can't think of any other solution but to go to your vet directly and have your pet checked. I hope your dog will be okay. I wish you all the best.

This is an odd case, I've never heard of this before. I am not so familiar with the signs that he is showing.

Obviously there is something wrong with your pet - he is suffering. Sad Please get help from your vet as soon as you can.

I hope you can find treatment for him, keep us posted!

I think it's time for a checkup, Sandra. It's hard to determine from what you wrote what's really bothering your pet. I can't say that these symptoms are common, but i do not think they are that serious. Nonetheless, a consult with your vet is the best way to go right now -- and I mean now! Don't wait for it to get worse.

dogs yelp for two reasons, either they're in fear or in pain. from what you have written, it seems like your dog is suffering from severe pain. you should have your pet examined by a vet to find out what's ailing him.

Hi all,
I'm happy to announce that our Oliver is happy and peppy again. We came to the conclusion that he has a case of arthritis aggravated by our almost 1 year old border Collie playing with Oliver a little bit too rough. As I had reported before, we started him on joint-eze and within 4 days he was feeling great again.
Sorry this message took so long, but we were out of state, on vacation.
We will continue the Joint-eze chewies because he loves them and now have all dogs on Purina One. WE also own a 6 year old Sheltie, "Ricky" and Abby, the Border collie.

Thanks to all for your advice. I do have a neighbor who is a nurse at the area Animal Surgical hospital and she always looks him over when needed.

Believe me its so nice to see him with that doggy smile again.

we're glad that Oliver is doing fine. just don't forget that besides medication it'll also help if Oliver gets to exercise, ok?

We're glad that Oliver is happy playing again! Also you're very lucky to have a neighbor (the nurse at the area Animal Surgical hospital) like that. I wish I lived near your house. Laughing
