I've been calling my sister's dog, Sir Humps-a-Lot. Why? Because that's what he loves to do lately. He would hump my leg, my sister's leg, the lamppost, the bean bags, heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he even humps the cat.

I told my sis to find a mate for Sir Humps-a-Lot but she's so picky.

What do you do when your dog starts to hump on a regular basis? Is a mate the best solution for that?

There are several reasons why your dog is humping you or others and, ironically, none of them are sexual. According to various vets, the most common reasons for this are:

    1. Your dog might be displaying his dominance
    2. Your dog might be showing you a great sign of affection
    3. Your dog might have an anal sac infection

If your dog’s humping is bothersome for you, there are steps you can take to help it overcome this phase:

    1. Observe your dog and tell it “no” before it even starts "humping"
    2. Reward your dog when he obeys
    3. Take your dog to the vet so its anal sacs can be checked

If none of the above remedies work, consult your vet immediately to see what the actual cause of the problem is. Once the root cause of this problem is discovered, then it will be easier to solve it.

That's a very good explanation, Carlito. I've always thought dogs hump because they're just in heat. I was wrong. Smile

Yeah. Thanks, Carlito. I always thought dogs' humping were sexual in nature. Stupid me! Embarassed

I have no such problem with my dogs.

If your dog humps like a maniac, you should take him to the vet. I'm sure there's a more serious reason behind that than simply wanting to mate.
