|
|
| Revolution is a great solution but it doesn't bode well with ticks. All during the summer months I get 1 tick a day from the cat. Is there a solution that I can mix with revolution? Our cat stays outside most the day and comes in at night. I don't want to over medicate or mix meds that might be harmful to us or our kitty. |

In cats, Revolution is really very effective in controlling harmful parasites like heartworm larvae, fleas, ear mites, roundworms and hookworms. This product's active ingredient is Selamectin which is safe even if usage exceeds the recommended dosage. Selamectin belongs to a group of chemicals known as macrocyclic lactones (Mls) which have very wide safety margins for mammals and no adverse effects.
As for tick control, you can use topical medications that contain ingredients like amitraz, permethrin and fipronil. There are also flea and tick shampoos and rinses with these ingredients. Seek the advice of a vet to know which is best for your pet.
Since your pet likes to stay outdoors, control ticks in the environment with products that contain these effective compounds: carbaryl, cyfluthrin, permethrin and s-fenvalerate. These acaracides, when freshly-applied, must be allowed to dry before animals or humans are allowed back into the area. Inhaling these chemicals can be unsafe. It is often best to have a licensed specialist exterminator apply acaracides, both indoor and outside. |

| mixing revolution with another solution is not the only answer to your problem. there are other methods that might be able to help get rid of ticks without needing to apply extra solution to your pet. have you ever tried changing your cat's diet? i've heard somewhere that changing your pet's diet can help reduce fleas and ticks. |

| thank you so much Libby for that information about Revolution, it will help pet owners who are considering mixing Revolution with another medication to come up with a more or less effective concoction against ticks and fleas. I'm neither a vet nor a chemist, but compatibility between chemicals should be a primary concern when mixing medications.. |
