My cat never uses the door when going outside; it always comes out through the window. Is this natural?

yes, that's normal. cats often use windows to get in and out because they like high places.

that's true libby, cats love to be in high places where they can observe the surroundings. according to animal behaviorists, high places can give them a sense of security and prestige..

If you're living in a high rise condominium, you should never leave windows open. A cat can easily be distracted by a bird on a window or ledge. She may leap and lose her balance. So again, be very careful.

my cats also likes to spend a lot of time by our window. they seem to be surveying "their property." Laughing

My cats use both the door and the windows, whichever is left open. They love the outdoors but of course I don't really let them out much.

hi harvey, just wanna add that there is such a thing as "high-rise syndrome," wherein an overconfident cat falls from an extreme height. we do know that cats are flexible enough to save itself from a certain height but if it's too high, then that will kill them. as a safety measure, all of us cat owners should protect our cats from dangerous perches, especially if we live in high-rise buildings and homes.

Yup, you're absolutely right, Regina. A cat always landing on its feet does not mean it can jump from the roof of a skyscraper! Shocked That's why I was a little worried about my cat when I saw it coming out through the window.

I thought that maybe it was becoming a "cat burglar" teehee Laughing

With their light bodies, cats can balance well if they're in high places like a ledge or gutter. But of course that's no guarantee. Accidents do happen so we should be extra careful of our pets.
