I'm no grooming expert here but i'd say definitely not. My vet said (I had to ask cos I don't know much about grooming...lol) that dogs have a different PH level on their skin. human products will cause a lot of dryness and can ruin your dog's coat after a while. SO to be on the safe side, use dog shampoos for dogs. After all, you would not want to use dog shampoo on your hair right? LOL! |

| i personally wouldn't advise it. human shampoo doesn't have the same ph balance for dogs or cats. it might even irritate their skin and will not give luster to their coats. using pet shampoo may be more expensive but in the long run, it is definitely better for your pets. |

i wouldn't advise it. i'd rather spend a little bit more for my Lucy than have the risk of her having scalp or hair problems later on. and in any case, i have a toy poodle so a bottle of dog shampoo really lasts quite a long time. |

I've a toy poodle too and yes! A bottle of shampoo goes a really loooong way!
anyway, Megan, oh gosh no! do not use human shampoo on dog's hair. Yes, initially the hair will be soft and it'll have a long lasting smell. But after a while, it just completely ruins their coat and it might not go back to normal! So better spend on a quality dog shampoo. it's wise to spend extra money on something that's sure. |

Human and dog hair are really different from each other. They require shampoos/soaps that are made for that purpose. Just as we won't use dog shampoo on our hair, we should not use human shampoo on theirs. |

i agree beatrice. i wouldn't mind spending a few more bucks on buying dog shampoos. i think these work well since they contain chemicals made specifically for dogs. |

that's okay, i guess. if you really must. but keep in mind that hotdogs are processed food. so it might not be the same as raw meat. _________________

| human shampoos are not good for dogs. they may contain chemicals that are harsh to use on dogs. it is best to use mild dog shampoos, which are formulated to have the right PH balance to clean and protect a pet's coat. |

| yeah you're right amelia. i think it's best to use mild dog shampoos with the right level of ph for your pet's coat. i use Epi-Soothe Oatmeal Shampoo for my pet and i can see that it protects his coat from itch and all. it keeps him clean and groomed as well. |

definitely. dogs need special care and special products designed specifically for them. mild shampoos for dogs and regular grooming can make their coat shine! |

human shampoos on dogs? definitely not a good idea. i read from a book on dogs that human shampoo can dry the dog's skin too much by removing its natural oils. dogs need these oils to keep warm. if they get too dirty, then it is necessary to give them a bath, but bathe them with care! it is always best to use dog shampoos because as the others discussed here, these products are specifically formulated for dogs.

You know, just to be on the safe side, use dog products for dogs and leave the human products to us. We all love our pets and I'm sure we can spend a little extra for them. |

| that's right. better to spend some bucks on dog shampoos, which could work better for your dog's skin/coat. spending less by using human shampoos, which are stronger and harsher to use on pets, just doesn't make sense. |

Good question, Terrence! Before trying human products on your dog, why not try using dog products for yourself first? That's only fair, right? |

hey susie, i just don't get what you mean... although it is understandable that kids may act silly at times, i don't think being a child is always an excuse for doing something wrong - let's not generalize. it depends on how old he/she is... a child could ask elders or in this case about using the shampoo. he can always ask if he doesn't know anything. if the child is older, he may even know how to read, and this case, read the brand name or the brief product description. we have to understand that children are smart and curious ones, they are getting advanced by the minute... |

To be sure, just consult your vet. Although, if you use dog products on your dog (which is the logical thing to do), you won't have to. So I think it will save us all a lot of time if we just buy our pet dogs their own products and whatnot. Don't you agree? |

Totally agree. There are a variety of dog products available now so there should be no reason why we don't give the right stuff to them... the only thing that would probably hinder us from doing so is if we don't want to spend some pennies on these things, right?
