|
| hi everyone. i'm sanya and i have two pet cats. i'm just wondering how other cat owners give medicine to their cats? it is so hard to do especially if it's in a tablet form. i also saw this pill popper designed especially for pets. does this thing really work? would appreciate any help. thanks. |

Hi sanya! yes, it is impossible to pill a cat. you'd end up getting scratches. I've never really tried the pill popper. I try to get the medicine in syrup form. but if not, i crush the pill and mix it with food. gosh, i don't know if this is a good thing or not. It's just too hard to pill them! |

| as the saying goes, Cats got 9 lives and i agree that they are very strong and very rarely get sick. i've never really tried giving medicine to my cat and i think it would just be impossible. as for that pill popper, i have no idea if it works or not. |

| what we do at home is immediately feed our cat with wet food after being given the pill to make sure it goes down. that cat can be real spoiled sometimes.. |

i normally just crush the tablet and mix it with her food. i can't imagine pushing it down her throat. i'm scared i might choke her or something. if not, i just ask my vet on what to do. hope i was able to help somehow. |

| If people say that nothing is impossible, try pilling a cat! LOL! Man! That was quite an experience for me. I have a huge cat, a MaineCoon named Mario. My wife and I tried to pill him but man was he strong. So we went online to get tips. A video showed that to pill a cat, you must first wrap it in a towel or something so you won't get scratched. Thank goodness we had mario declawed. But he resisted. Finally, after so much struggling and teeth marks and hisses and yowls, we succeeded. I don;t know how but my wife managed to insert the pill while i was wrestling with the struggling cat. |

| The guy who did the video must have forgotten cats can remember things. I guess it goes for all kinds of pets, subject them to something punishing and they're likely to remember it. so it's probably best that if you're going to play with your cat, try wrapping them in something, wrap them like a burrito and then laugh. maybe this will condition should the time come and immobilizing them is necessary. |

| that's why pets need training. i've always tried to include pilling in training my pets. but i don't do it regularly so with some pets they okay to pill and with the others i still get scratches. |

| I do the same thing daniel. I blend my cat's medicine on her food so it would see it as just part of its regular food...it won't act violently or scratch me if ever. |

| Cats are not really "trainable", well, in my case at least. I agree with most of the posters here. Mix the medicine with their food and there won't be any problems. |

| yes, mixing medicine with the regular food works well with my cat for the longest time. it doesn't draw attention to the fact that it has medication in it. |

Wow! That's great to hear, yoko! I'm a little hesitant to use these pill-popper thingies, but after what you said, I just might give them a go. |

| aside from pill poppers, there are also those.. what do you call them? pill pockets. they look like cat treats with a little hole in them for placing pills and tablets. they taste and smell like cat food so the cats just eat them without even thinking that they're taking the pills at the same time, too. |

| yes, yoko. i've also used pill poppers for my cat. and sure, once the cat get the hang of it, it's not that hard to give them their medicines. |
