How do you kill hook worms. Ive given my 10 year old K9 DRONTAL PLUS and the worms started pooring out.

The issue I'm having is there still alive. I collected a few samples in plastic bag and they are still alive after 3 days. Hook worms are very hearty. I did not have a controlled enviorment whern I gave medicine. I can not determine what the last poop was and I'm sure the little pest moved off the fecal to look for a new host. I'm concerned for family.

i know you already used a wormer. perhaps it's good to keep all the areas in your home, including your yard, clean. a good hygienic environment may help get rid of these hookworms Wink

The great thing is, you got the worms out of your dog. Perhaps it's time to take him to the vet to see if there are any worms left still lurking inside him.

so does that mean that K9 DRONTAL PLUS only gets the worm off your pet but doesn't kill them?

i'm sure that product hasn't got rid of all the hookworms in your pet. if i were you, i'd consult a vet. he/she should know how to get rid of those pests the proper way and for good.

yes, they can, megan, so it's important to treat your dog if they have this parasites. hookworms can cause cutaneous larva migrans. this causes red and swollen tracts, and makes your skin very itchy.

this just gave me the creeps. i wonder why k9 dontral wasn't able to kill the hookworms.. does that mean it's not that effective?

from what i've read most medications only kill adult worms. these means the drug leaves the hookworm larvae unharmed. so maybe the dog should be re-treated in about 2 to 3 weeks.

according to an article here in petcyclopedia, we should continuously give our dogs hookworm treatment for the rest of their lives. to read more about this, here's the link: http://www.petshed.com/petcyclopedia/how-to-treat-canine-hookworms.html
