Hi. I've heard that it is a dangerous process to cure a dog with heartworm disease. I'm not a hundred percent sure why. A friend even went to say that the meds are as lethal as poison, but those are the only types that will cure the dog.
One thing I'm sure of. It is better to prevent heartworms from infecting your dog. There are meds like Heartgard for that. |

treatments for heartworms in dogs vary. if you want to know about them, you can check out the website of the american heartworm society. |

| heartworm disease can be treated but preventing your dog from getting the disease is safer. |

| I know there are available FDA-approved treatments for heartworms. I'm sure the vet can advise the appropriate treatment for the infected dog. |

| although treatments are available, there is some risk in treating heartworm disease. i don't if what i heard is true but they say that a the dog under treatment may even need to be hospitalized for a period of time. |

i agree with her. just be aware that not all treatments are successful that's why heartworms are considered lethal. there are natural treatments though. but do you guys think they work? |

this is true. the dog needs to be hospitalized because it requires complete rest after the heartworm treatment, which kills the heartworms (adult worms and microfilariae) inside the dog's body. |

| i think your dog can get re-infected because it only takes a single bite from a mosquito that has the infection to make your pet sick. so, ask your vet what's the best heartworm preventative. |

| I suggest you take your dog to the vet. Heartworm disease is very serious and requires professional help. |

| Both of my dogs went through the heartworm treatment several years ago. They stayed overnight, picked them up the next day. They developed a slight case of pneumonia, had to take pretizone. I would strongly suggest to anyone to please give your pets heartworm preventative meds. |
