Health Benefits of Having a Pet

Compared to non-pet owners:

* People who own pets typically visit the doctor less often and use less medication.

* Pet owners, on average, have lower cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

* Pet owners recover more quickly from illness and surgery.

* Pet owners deal better with stressful situations.

* Pet owners are less likely to report feeling lonely.

I'm a living testament to this. Because of my cats and dogs, I haven't been sick for the past five years! They make my life stress-free. Very Happy

My dog loves to walk so whenever I take her to the park, I also get some exercise.

I agree! I'm living proof of this! Ever since I had my "best friend", I hardly feel stressed and if ever I did, it's cut in half. Wink

I think everyone in the world should have at least one pet! Do you all agree? Maybe if Hitler had a pet, he wouldn't have been so mean.

Yes, I think so too. Pets can soften any man's heart. What do you think?

There are what they call 'Therapy dogs'. These dogs comfort the sick, the old and also those suffering from depression. Mostly golden retrievers, labs and german shepherds.

if there's good, there must also be bad. it's how the world works. so my question is, what are the bad things we get out of having a pet?

Hey Terrence. There may be some bad things (as you put it) in having a pet but the GREAT THINGS outweigh it by miles.

yes, simon's right. there are definitely a lot of PLUS in having a pet. and if you're somebody who just wants to share your love, then having a pet is one of the best options you have.

of course, if they're allergic then pets won't be beneficial to them. though i have a friend who's allergic but he still has fun with these animals. he enjoys watching his nieces and nephews play with their dog in the yard. as for me, my pets keep me company, and i welcome this most when i'm sad and tired.

Jennifer, that might be the worst thing that can happen to a pet lover. To be allergic to his/her pets. That would be sad.
