|
|
For years I have used preventic collars during the dangerous tick season. Unfortunately, two of my dogs came down with lyme decease last year. My vet recommended using Frontline for our dogs in addition to the preventic collars.
We have only used Frontline for two months on our 4 dogs. Three of the dogs are fine except one. For the past two months she has been breaking toe nails. One the first month I gave her the Frontline and two the next month. The vet thinks it might be a deficiancy and added derm caps to her diet.
We have visited the vet four times in the past several weeks, for toe nail pain. Today she can't bear weight on her front paw. During our last discussion, the vet is suggested amputating the nail and part of the toe so a biopsy could be performed.
It seems odd to me that this was a perfectly healthy vibrant and extremely energetic dog before I started using Frontline. Has any one heard of this type of reaction? I tried looking for a list of reactions.....on the box or on line and can't find anything.
Does anyone know where I can find a list of reactions to Frontline? Any help would be appreciated. The surgery is scheduled for Monday I would like to have a conversation with my vet on this but need something to go with other than my instinct. Any help would be appreciated for our Luna! |

I'm sorry to hear about that, Punky. Why don't you contact Frontline's manufacturer? I'm pretty sure they can answer your questions about their product.
And of course, go see your vet. He is in the best position to help you.
I've come across this site, it's Australian, http://www.apvma.gov.au/publications/subpage_publications.shtml#AERP
you'll have to search for the active ingredient of the product. For Frontline, it's "fipronil".
You can also try the FDA site http://www.fda.gov/cvm/ade_cum.htm.
Again, you have to search by the active ingredient.
Good luck and I wish for the best of health for your dogs.

Hey Punky, sorry for the sad news about Luna.
Like Jennifer, I've never heard of allergies to Frontline before. About the surgery though, if your vet says this is the best option, then perhaps it really is best for your pet.
Hope the surgery goes well Punky. I really wish the best for your Luna. |
