| we love pets, no questions about it. now, here's the question: will we still have a heart for battery-operated pets? the so called virtual pets? |

i still prefer live pets because they can interact with us in a natural way.
virtual pets, i consider as toys and the one good thing about them is you don't have to worry about ticks and fleas. |

| my pet gives me an emotional boost which i don't think a battery-operated pet can provide. besides, that is just make pretend and you'll always come back to reality that what you have is not a real animal. maybe, i could use them as a toy for my pet. |

Digital pets are not "real" pets; they're just toys. I don't think I'll consider having a digital pet anytime in the near future. If I wanted a toy maybe.
I mean, consider it, what's the difference between a digital pet and, say, a mobile phone or PDA? |

| virtual pets are ideal for people who can't have pets, like those who are allergic to fur. it's nothing like the real thing but it's the closest they can get to having a pet. at least it's better than pet rocks.. |

That's sad. I mean, if you can't have pets. I hope that I will never have to bear something like that |

exactly! there's no difference. digital pets are artificial; they'll NEVER get close to the real thing. there's nothing like real pets with their sweet tender lovin'. |

| i think virtual pets are a good starting ground for people who wish to have pets but don't have experience with taking care of one. that way they get an idea of what it's like to have a pet-- the responsibility that comes with it and all those other stuff. |

| I think virtual pets are merely toys; they don't even come close to real ones. If you want experience, the best way to gain that is by having a real pet, right? |

| irvin's right. the first experience in having a pet should be done with a real pet because it will give owners a truthful encounter and will teach them to adapt naturally with their pet. it would be more meaningful than a virtual pet. |

but virtual pets will save you from the heartbreak of losing a pet in case everything just went wrong. |

That's a good point, Isabella. However, that also means that you didn't really have a pet because you didn't lose anything.
Sorry, no virtual pets for me. |

at least all you have got to lose is a virtual pet whom you can restart if you accidentally killed it.
i think there are websites now that offer virtual pets. i came across one while surfing. |

for me virtual pets are not pets, they're toys. you don't treat pets like toys, do you? so why treat toys as pets? |

It's ok to treat toys as pets but not the other way around. |
