i think that's the total number of hours cats sleep in a day, of course they don't sleep 18 hours straight.

Yes, cats do sleep for a total of 13 to 16 hours per day. The length of sleep depends on a cat's age, need for food, the weather and temperature. Sleep habits also differ between active and inactive cats. Inactive cats will sleep longer because they have nothing else to do.

House cats make most of their snoozing at night. Most are active at dawn and dusk due to their “crespuscular” nature. This trait harks back to their animal instinct of hunting during these periods.

It is best to familiarize with your cat's sleep pattern. If your pet is sleeping less than usual then consult a vet to see if he/she might have a thyroid problem.

Hey, Libby honey, thanks for the info. I'll start observing how long my cats sleep. Just in case. Smile

I'm sorry, Libby but what does “crespuscular” mean? Question

I think it was misspelled, Irvin. It should be 'crepuscular' which means being active at twilight or before sunrise. Smile
