murine typhus can, initially, be caught from rats but cats can be carriers of this disease, too. i say don't wait for this to happen! prevent this disease by making sure that your cat is flea-free. there are dozens of products here in petshed that can help you with that. Very Happy

i read somewhere that cat fleas can transmit infections/diseases to humans such as Bartonella, the tapeworm Dipylidium caninum, and murine typhus.

actually, there are isolated cases of "black plague" in our modern times. however, these cases mostly occurred in underdeveloped places, so unless you're living in a remote farm country, the chances of you getting the plague from fleas is very slim.

well, this is what i do when bitten by a flea. wash the bite with warm water and antiseptic soap. apply cold compress to reduce swelling. use calamine lotion to stop itching. see a doctor if the bite worsens.

Yes, fleas can cause diseases in humans, too -- like Lyme disease, for example. Other diseases you can get from fleas include Pruritus, Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD), Tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum), and Anemia.

Ruben, I'm sorry but your previous post is a little vague. Could you please elaborate? Thanks! Smile

well, my vet says prompt cleaning will help a lot. wash the flea bite area in hot soapy water as soon as possible and check for other fleas that might be on your skin. as for the minor swelling, apply ice on the area for 10 minutes. Then apply hydrocortisone cream to the area to stop the itching.
