The richest pets in the world

Jasper the dog... well, not quite.

UNITED KINGDOM: He's got a diamond collar, lives on his own 500-hectare estate, and travels by stretch limo. Yep, it's a fair bet that Jasper the dog is one of a growing number of pets which have more money than you ever will.

People love to spoil their pets... and some go to extremes. They check them in pet-only hotels, worry about any small amount of pet stress, give them pet-safe desserts and dog beer, even put them in dog-only nursing homes so they receive the very best care in their old age!

But, making them the sole heir to estates, and leaving them wads of cash - now that's spoiling them to the next level.

Believe it or not, there are four-legged furry friends who have more money than any ten normal people could have in a lifetime. And they have earned every penny. Their selfless devotion and loyalty to their 'filthy rich' owners convinced them to add a sentence or two on their last will and testament to look after their feline or canine companions once they are gone.

Jasper, a doberman-labrador mix, is is a classic example of an incredibly wealthy pet. After being abandoned at Battersea Dogs Home (the UK's most famous dog's home) and at the point of being put to sleep, he caught the attention of Ramsden Brewery heiress Diana Myburgh. The old lady died shortly afterwards, and left Jasper an absolute fortune.

Jasper lives in a 500 hectare estate. He travels in style in a chauffered stretch limo and eats only sirloin steak, fresh mussels, and Dover sole (the most-expensive fish on the market). Jasper also sports a collar made of diamonds. Oh, and he has a cool 130,000 pounds $268,000).

Another pooch which allegedly tops the list of the world's richest pets is the legendary Gunther IV. This German Shepherd, which made headlines after he and his sire, Gunther III, were allegedly left 60 million pounds ($124m) upon the death of their owner, Countess Karlotta Liebenstein in 1992. Gunther IV is now reputed to be worth a whopping 180 million pounds ($372m). However, the Gunter IV's existence has never been fully proven, and so can only be regarded with some suspicion.

World's 10 richest pets
Here are ten pets who know where their next scratch is coming from:

  • 1. Gunther IV, dog, $372 million
  • 2. Kalu the chimp, $109 million
  • 3. Tobey Rimes, dog, $92 million
  • 4. Gigoo, chicken, $10 million
  • 5. Frankie, dog, $6.2 million
  • 6. Ani, cat, $6.2 million
  • 7. Pepe Le Pew, cat, $6.2 million
  • 8. Hellcat, cat, $4.1 million
  • 9. Brownie, cat, $4.1 million
  • 10. Moose, (aka Eddie of Frasier), dog, $3.7 million

There are, however, other true wags to riches stories. It's funny how adopted moggies and pooches end up loaded.

Drew Barrymore's dog Flossie is said to be the proud owner of a $3 million estate in Beverly Hills. Flossie, a Yellow Labrador, was rescued by Drew in a flea market. Flossie decided to return the favor when Drew and then husband Tom Green's house caught fire. She woke the couple up and saved them from the fire. The couple thought it was only fair to give the 3600-square- foot home to Flossie. After repairing the damages, Flossie is said to be enjoying her new 'dog house' with human housemate, Drew.

Another rich pet is Tinker, a former stray cat who inherited 100,000 pounds ($206,000) in cold hard cash plus a 3-bedroom house valued at 350,000 pounds ($722,000)! Tinker was adopted by an old woman named Margaret. Just before she died, Margaret left everything to Tinker in her will. To make sure that the will is carried out, neighbors Ann and Eugene Wheatley go to Tinker's house each day to feed him. Tinker will leave the house to his kind neighbors when his time has come to be reunited with his owner.

These pet owners have taken pooch and feline pampering to the extreme. Absurd as it may seem to actually leave a fortune to domestic animals, in fact it is quite legal and binding. USA Today reported that there are laws that allow affluent owners to set up trust funds for their beloved pets. The average trust fund left to pets is about $25,000.

Wow! I'm so jealous! I wish some rich dude adopts me before they croak. This way, I can have everything that I wish for.

dont you think its a bit unfair that there are so many people who live below the humane living standards and here are dogs and cats and whatever pets who seriously dont need that money?? these people are.. i dunno.. bordering on stupid. i mean i love animals and all but id rather give my money to people who have real use for it.

Hey, it's Eddie! I love Frasier! Too bad he passed away last year though =(

Jeanne Garrett's picture

is this for real?? they are soooo crazy! wow.. i wanna be reincarnated to a pet in my next lifetime - the pet of some rich and lonely person!

hey. there's a million dollar chicken on that list. LOL

Tanya Saunders's picture

i feel that these people who leave their riches to their pets are quite disturbing. i have pets myself and i love them to bits but when i go, i would rather help a family member or maybe donate my riches to some charitable organization. this way more people are helped rather than just my pet.

Judith Birkett's picture

crazy. there are some people who live with a week! and these people would give millions on pets? would these pets know what caviar is or steak or something? would they actually strut their stuff and brag to other pets that they are wearing diamond collars? yeah, i'm all for loving pets. but this is too much!! gawd... rich fools can be really selfish.

Daniel Finney's picture

paging all rich and about to die people out there..... i am available to be adopted anytime! adopt me, adopt me, adopt me!

Corey Allen's picture

how lucky can these pets get?! i would love to be adopted by some rich person when they go and just have the time of my life. oh well, some dogs have all the luck.

Mat Johnson's picture

sheesh! what a waste. it would've been better if the money they left were used to help other people. oh well its their money anyway. they can do whatever they want with it.

anyone remember that monkey from friends? what was his name- marcelle, was it? i remember reading something that says the same monkey starred in several movies as well. i thought a monkey of that kind of stature would make it to the list somehow

hey dont hate on the rich folks out there. you cant blame em. sometimes pets make better companions than humans because they wont cheat on you or betray you. if its theirs to give i dont see anything wrong with that.

Stanley Mccarthy's picture

Right on Daron! that's why if you ask me am leaving my millions of dollars under my good ol buddy's name. lol!

All of you that are so jealous because money was left to a pet should just suck it up. I don't have millions but my pets have given me more love and loyality than any human. I'm living all I have to care for any pets that I have at time of my death. How else can I be sure they won't be hurt by my death? I foster dogs and I am also leaving my property to the dogs that need a home.

Anyone ever heard of a rich horse? i wonder if any rich person has left money or property or a barn to a horse? it's not so far fetched... unlike the mil chicken on the list! lol

Pauline Weiss's picture

What about Lassie? that was a pretty huge movie back then. there's Benjie (did i get that right), he had a tv series before. or Wishbone! i'm pretty sure they have tons of money too.

How about that? That chicken actually has more money than I will ever make in this lifetime LOL

what stupid owners, if they really wanted to leave their pets somthing valuable then they should have built them dog mansions filled with all the treats money could buy. its the people around the dog who will eventually spend the money left to them.

Billy Dugan's picture

Well how 'bout that? the pooch on the 10th spot can still have more money that I could have in my lifetime, even if I don't spend a single cent of my salary for years... and years! lol!

Kimelia Zingaff's picture

Is there any truth in this?? gosh... these people are beyond crazy! and selfish, too! instead of helping others out with their riches, they leave it to pets who do not even understand wealth! so who is benefiting here? the pet or the person who takes care of the pet, ergo, holds the money?

Jennifer Trenton's picture

sometimes pets have all the luck. imagine if you're a pet and you have owners who really take care of you like these rich people then you are made!

Joey Concha's picture

Ok, I got to this site because the petshed trivia section led me to this. A rich chicken! LOL! Does the clucker have clothes? a diamond necklace? LOL. A dressed-up chicken. Some people really have tons of money that they do not know what to do with it. Selfish freaks, if you ask me. That money could be used to help other people!

LOL same with J. Concha, the trivia section led me to this. Can't believe a friggin' chicken could have that amount of money! Whew! Dog, cat, yeah. understandable. But a chicken?! What if someone cooks it by accident? Whoops, there goes the 10 million dollars! LOL

Megan Turnbull's picture

what the..?! what is a chicken gonna do with 10 mil????

I understand the desire to care for your animal companions after you die. But this goes eay beyond that. It's self-gratification, not caring for animals, that produces this stupidity.

The animals would be just as well off with a mere 50 thousand. These people were obviously NOT animal lovers, or they'd have left the excess of their riches to help the thousands of lost, homeless and abused animals who don't have rich benefactors.
